Fat Tuesday

Nothing is more therapeutic for a mom than getting to go out with her best girlfriend who also happens to be a mom. Girls night takes on a whole new meaning after having kiddos. I cherish those times! This past Tuesday night was one of those glorious times.  Of course I had to shed my lounge clothes, fix my hair, put on makeup, and add a little sparkle. After all it was Mardi Gras!

A Much Needed Night Out

Nights out are few and far between these days especially with all this sickness.  When my mom came down to help, the hubs and I jumped at the chance to have a night out.  The cold and rain was not going to keep us away from our favorite sushi restaurant downtown.   I thought I would share the budget outfit I wore with y'all.  You don't have to spend a ton of money to wear fashionable clothes.  I have a few tricks I use when shopping for fashion forward pieces at a fraction of the cost.

So excited about my Velvet top!  I tried this exact top on in a boutique where it was rather pricey.  I loved it, but just couldn't bring myself to pay full retail price for it.  I came home and was lucky enough to find it on eBay.  (This doesn't always happen).  I couldn't believe I found the same top in the color I liked for a fraction of the retail price.  eBay is a great resource if you have the time to really search for a good buy.  I do use eBay a lot to shop for designer/name brand items that I don't want to spend a ton of money on.  You may have luck on eBay or I have linked a similar top below if you are interested.  My Citizens skinny black leggings were also a great buy.  I found them at a boutique in Charleston on sale for a fraction of the price.  I always shop boutique sales for out of season clothes.  Many of my favorite items have come from shopping boutique sales.  You would be amazed at how much clothes can be marked down.  I have had these pants/leggings for a couple of years and am excited I finally fit back into them due to pregnancy and post baby weight.  I will link a similar pair below.

I know you can't see my booties in the pics above, but they were another fabulous buy.  I found them at a little shoe store in Kingsport, TN that sells name brands at a low price.  If you can find one of these stores close to you, shop often!  It's hit or miss, but you will find some GREAT buys on name brands when you hit it right.  I love them because they add a little sparkle on a dreary, winter night.

It's hard to see, but my monogram necklace is done in my boys' initials:

And of course I have to put a pic of the fabulous sushi we had at Koji!

Plan It Out

I have always been a planner and have had a slight obsession with daily planners. After taking a class my freshman year in college that taught me how to organize my planner even better, my obsession with organizing my life grew that much more. I have saved most of my planners since 2001 (see below). Some people keep journals, I keep a planner.  Being a busy mom of twins, organization is key to our lives.  I know keeping a paper planner is a little outdated with all the technology available now, but for me I have to have something I write in where I can add my personal touch.  I thought I would share some of my organization ideas and tools with you in hopes you might find something of use.

All my planners I've saved from '01, '02, '03, '08, '09, '10, '11, '12

My current planner. I don't think Kate Spade makes this particular planner anymore, but they have the same size available in a different color.

Let's break it down...

First, you need to find a planner format that is easy for you to use and that appeals to YOU.  There are so many options available, so you may have to do some experimenting.  I currently use a small pocket size leather bound planner that I can add a refill to each year.  Of course style comes into play for me.  I have to enjoy looking at it everyday, and it has to have a touch of personal flair.  After trying many different types of planners, I finally found one I love.  I have had my Kate Spade planner for 3 years now and it's perfect for me!  It's very small, but I like that because I can easily throw it in my purse if need be.  It's important you find a size and format that works best for your lifestyle or you won't want to use it.  The format I use has a monthly view at the beginning of each month, and then I can view a week at a time where I write in daily activities.  After you have chosen your planner, it's time to find a way to actually use it.
Second, find a way (system) of writing down activities, appointments, and items that need to be completed within a day, week, and month. I am a huge fan of Post-Its, which I use to write my wonderful and never ending To Do Lists.  You can even use different sizes or colors to divide up daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.  For example, I may use a big Post-It to write all the items I need to complete within the week, and I like to use a smaller size for daily tasks that I can stick onto that day.  For those of you who aren't organizers, I know this seems a little overboard, but I promise it works!  There is nothing more satisfying than checking off my To Do List!  :)  I tend to write any appointments, my aerobics teaching schedule times, or any other events of note on the specific day space provided.

The best part of having a Kate Spade planner are the colorful refills!  So cute!

I hope you found something useful in my post.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.  I would love to hear from you!

Happy Planning!!

Fabulous Friday

Being a mom of 13 month old twins and having been sick for nearly 2 weeks, I haven't been out much, if any, lately.  My sweet mom came down from TN to give me a break, so I took full advantage today.  Of course I headed to the mall.  It's amazing what a little retail therapy can do for you.  I do most of my shopping online these days, so getting to touch, feel, smell, and try on and actually be in a store was wonderful!  I found some new spring looks, some fabulous heels, and ended my day with some Sephora.

My outfit today:

My first stop of the day was Amanzi Tea to re-stock my tea supply.  Had to have one to go too.  :)

One of the hottest trends right now, but unfortunately I have yet to find one that looks good on me.  For the record, I did not buy this.  Guess you can't wear em all.
Who doesn't love a fabulous pair of heels?  Aren't these amazing?  Now I need a place to wear them, ha ha.

And a quick trip to Sephora capped off my day of shopping.  I added a new eyeliner to my collection.

Happy Friday!!!
